I remember watching the movie Freedom Writers as a teenager and crying buckets. The movie was about an English teacher, who against all odds never gave up on her class, no matter what people around her said.

Oddly enough, it also inspired me to give Anne Frank's Diary another chance because I'd first read it when I was far too young to understand it.

Last night, I found out that the teacher in the movie was a real person. Erin Gruwell was real. And so were her extraordinary students.
